"I'm afraid of Human Rights" - Stephen Harper
Maybe its time Canadians highlight for ReichWingers & the oblivious citizenry:
What exactly is Stephen Harper buying with our $1B?
He's buying a PR stunt that rings out loud to every multi-national corporation & bought-off politician:
"I can do whatever I want in my country: behold my yamsack as I teabag my citizens in the largest city in the nation. Let the national FireSale begin! Canada's on the menu, boys & girls, just like any other developing nation you owned through WHINSEC!"
What's the best thing that can be said about the circumstances?
That it takes $1B for ethical, peaceful Canadians to BE shut the fuck up.
- Sound cannons ready for G20 protests
… The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP concluded the Mounties used “excessive and unjustified force” to disperse protesters at the 2001 Summit of the Americas in Quebec.
Toronto police bought the devices as part of the $1-billion security effort Canadian authorities are mounting to try to ensure the G8 and G20 summits run smoothly.
The Council of Canadians said Wednesday it would give away earplugs during the G20 to protect people from permanent hearing loss.
“Saying a sound cannon is a tool for communications is like saying waterboarding isn’t torture, just a tool for encouraging dialogue,” said spokesman Mark Calzavara.
- G20 & G8 Summits now budget hit $1.1B
The cost of hosting the G8 and G20 summits next month in Ontario now stands at $1.1 billion and further outlays are likely, federal documents show.
The price tag includes $160 million for hospitality, infrastructure, food safety and extra staffing.
That amount is in addition to the $933-million security bill the Tories revealed earlier this week.
Security costs at previous summits:
- G8 summit Japan October 2008: $381 million
- G8 summit Gleneagles, Scotland – July 2005: $ 110 million
- G20 summit London – April 2009: $ 30 million
- G20 summit Pittsburgh – September 2009: $ 18 million
'If you push it, there'll be more backlash,' senator warns on abortion issue
Conservative Senator Nancy Ruth told a meeting of international women's equality rights groups Monday morning that it would be best for them to "shut the f--k up"
"We've got five weeks or whatever left until the G8 starts. Shut the f--k up on this issue," she said. "If you push it, there'll be more backlash. ..."
Liberal MP Dr. Carolyn Bennett said Ruth's comments shocked the room. Bennett said she thinks Ruth's advice exposes something the government has denied — that for those who speak out against the government, there will be repercussions.
Last year in Phoenix "SB1070" Arizona, Canada's representatives, WHINSEC-trained national police representatives, 'DrugWar' professionals & their preferred US corporations gathered for the Border Security Conference.
This year's theme is "People. Terrorism. Contraband."
I sincerely recommend that Canadians pay attention to:
- the Predator drones hovering along our Border
- the new Secure Flight programme, whereby Canadians will have to seek permission from the US DHS to obtain boarding passes for passage through the US airspace.
(The Jeff Farias Show with Ed 'The Practical Nomad' Hasbrouck has done a number of detailed shows on the Secure Flight programme. You might wanna tell your friends about what 'Secure Flight' means to Canadian citizen & sovereignty.)
