The bridge (and the sign) are run by the federal government. Way to build bridges!
as an editor: on a QWERTY keyboard a hurried staffer hit G (under T) and doubled the O, but then no proofing ... just two wrong key strokes, but no checking
the political optics are worse
At least they got the É right...
Also, the bridge was clothed in fog for much of the day. That may have had an impact.
And given that it was a bridge thing, I was afraid for a while that they'd blame student activists, who (as everyone knows) were to blame for all traffic problems in 2012!
Another good reason that the Federal Government shouldn't be responsible for writing the referendum question.
just to clarify something:
of course it is not some disembodied "federal government" that gets the rap for this, but an individual civil servant, the agent of the error, probably taking the lash right now....
I am still blaming Harper.
I'm hoping this can become a meme. Harper recognizes Québec as a nagtioon within a united Canada.
And while I get the problems of rendering an É within a single line of LEDs at full size, doesn't the sign have more than two lines? If there's a full blank line above it, there's no reason they have to write QUéBEC as they always do.
