Québec solidaire votes "no" to National Assembly motion praising Bin Laden's assassination

Don't hold your breath waiting for anyone else - e.g. the NDP - taking a stand of principle on this. Mulcair learned his lesson.

Amir Khadir, the Québec solidaire MNA for Montreal's Mercier riding, was the only member of the National Assembly to vote against a resolution Tuesday inspired by the death of Osama bin Laden, saying the motion smacked of "Rush Limbaugh or Sarah Palin's" rhetoric.

The motion was presented by Action démocratique du Québec leader Gérard Deltell, whose Chauveau riding is near Canadian Forces Base Valcartier. The co-sponsors were Louise Beaudoin, of the Parti Québécois, and independents Éric Caire and Marc Picard.

It affirmed that Quebec "has and will continue to be an ally of the whole international community in security issues and more particularly against the menace of terrorism."
