The hole is about eight metres long and five metres across.

I know! Geez.

And sorry for the thread drift, but this happened about 5 blocks away this morning:

[url=http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Falling+metal+plate+kills+pedest... metal plate kills pedestrian at construction site [/url]

Quote:

A 32-year-old man is dead after he was struck on the head by a large metal plate at a construction site across from Le Crystal Hotel on René Lévesque Blvd.

The pedestrian was walking on the east side of de la Montagne St. just north of René Lévesque when the chain carrying the plate broke, said police on the scene.

His shoes, glasses and backpack were all that remained of him at the scene, along with medical gloves and other first aid detritus.

The deadly accident happened at 8:40 a.m. The man was transported by Urgences Santé to the hospital where he was declared dead.

I'm not going downtown any more.

Not thread drift at all. Ghastly.

Evidently rules have been slackened there too, and in the past (according to an engineer interviewed) pedestrian traffic would definitely not have been allowed underneath.

At least the backhoe operator wasn't hurt or killed, but what a first day back at work from the construction holidays!

pookie

Jesus.
