Last year, the metallic ring of spoons, spatulas and kitchen utensils banging on pots and pans became the sound and call for democracy in Quebec and Canada. rabble.ca was there. We provided on-the-ground coverage and analysis while the mainstream media played catch-up. When Idle No More was launched, rabble.ca was there from the beginning. Again, the mainstream media was weeks behind. At rabble we devote special attention to covering democracy movements in Canada and beyond, sharing the stories and struggles of people fighting for change.
Today we are launching our annual supporting membership drive. rabble.ca's supporting members provide us with dependable income and help with financial planning. Our supporting members keep the lights on.
Please support our coverage of democratic movements and become a supporting member of rabble.ca for $5/month (or more!). If you are already member please find one other person to join and if possible add a bit to your monthly support.
You’ve likely heard the disturbing news about Harper’s unprecedented attacks on public media with his budget giving his cabinet new powers over the CBC. Harper is seeking to dictate collective bargaining and salaries within Canada’s public media. What happened to the arm's-length relationship between the government and the CBC? Harper has rejected it. In other words, corporate media concentration is growing, public media is under attack, and community media remains under-resourced to provide alternatives. This is where you come in with your support.
Join as a supporting member at $5/month during our campaign and you receive a free print magazine subscription as a “thank-you” gift. You can pick from great titles like Canadian Dimension, Our Times, Adbusters, and The New Internationalist. If you give at least $8/month, we will also send you our new book, Best of rabble.ca, 2013 edition.
But hurry! This special magazine giveaway is only valid during our supporting membership drive, which ends Friday, July 12.
We know that this isn’t the only request you will get from organizations you support. We believe we are a great choice because despite our small budget, we change the political conversation in Canada and keep Canadians informed about the stories and issues they need to know to make Canada a better place.

Thank you for reading this story…
More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all, while striving to make it sustainable as well. Media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our main supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help. You are what keep us sustainable.
rabble.ca has staked its existence on you. We live or die on community support -- your support! We get hundreds of thousands of visitors and we believe in them. We believe in you. We believe people will put in what they can for the greater good. We call that sustainable.
So what is the easy answer for us? Depend on a community of visitors who care passionately about media that amplifies the voices of people struggling for change and justice. It really is that simple. When the people who visit rabble care enough to contribute a bit then it works for everyone.
And so we’re asking you if you could make a donation, right now, to help us carry forward on our mission. Make a donation today.
