Dr. Annine van der Meer is the director of the Pansophia Institute in the Netherlands, and the author of the book The Language of MA the Primal Mother: The evolution of the female image in 40,000 years of global Venus Art (Demeter Press, 2015)
In this interview, Dr. Van der Meer says that some archaeologists say these millions of female figurines are sex symbols, some say they are realistic portraits of ancient women. Dr. van der Meer's views are more complex and incorporate cross-disciplinary research findings.
